This morning when we went down to breakfast we noticed quite a few American families at breakfast and assumed several of them are here on adoption trips as well, we were even seated by someone I had "met" in one of my gazillion FB adoption groups....what are the odds!
Our trip this morning started off cold and rainy and turned to cold and snowy as we approached the Great Wall. We returned to the same section we visited 4 years ago when we came to bring Chen Chen home so it was fun to have her see the same part we did. What wasn't fun was the snow and ice packed on every treacherous step, despite that CC darted up and beat her old and winded parents! We didn't end up staying very long, we were all cold and wet...we got our pictures and slowly made our way back down the icy steps to meet our guide. After a squatty potty incident that we will never speak of again we made our way to lunch and a cloisonné factory. On the way to the Wall we stopped at a factory where they made jade pieces. I am not particularly a fan of cloisonné but we let CC pick out 2 ornaments for our tree this year, a rabbit and a rat to represent her and Finley's Chinese zodiac animals. We finally made it back to our room and took advantage of the washing machine in our room and aren't having to pack any dirty clothes to take to Hohhot. It was difficult to scrape ourselves back together after lounging around for a while but we needed to get out to find some food so we bundled back up and went around the corner to McDonalds. Afterwards we walked a few streets down back to the food street we had briefly walked through a few nights earlier. For the past year Chen Chen has been talking about the panda hat she wanted to get in China so when we saw a vendor on the street selling them we let her pick one out. I was all ready to put on my bargaining hat to negotiate the price, but they were only $2.35 so I didn't even bother! We have to meet our guide at 6:30 in the morning for our flight to Hohhot tomorrow so we are going to try to call it a night early so we will be well rested. We will check into our hotel, I am assuming we will go exchange the money needed for our orphanage donation when we meet Finley...it's almost time!
