So I ended up being happy using a Design A & H for this week, I was afraid I wouldn't have enough space since we had a few more things going on, but with 2 less days of school (less out the door pictures) and leaving out the 3x4 "out the door" card it worked out perfectly.
Left side, 2 out the door pictures and in the 6x4 space I documented going to her class to do a presentation and craft for Chinese New Year. Used a Studio Calico cut file and printables for the embellishments for most of this week as well as flair from the shop.
Right side, documented using her Chinese New Year gift card, another out the door pic., Valentine's Day loot and spending $ from her Granny and Grandpa plus a couple of pictures from the Chinese New Year parade. Kept the embellishments simple and made sure I added more dates as I haven't been diligent about that beyond the out the door pics. Using a lot of Amy Tangerine and Lily Bee letters, I stocked up on the Lily Bee ones but I NEED more of those AT alphabets!
My favorite part of week 7 is the spread she made....
As I was finishing up I printed doubles of some of the pictures and she made her own version of Project Life :) I gave her an AC page to put everything in and am definitely adding this to my album ♥
Today the 3 of us made the trip into the city for the Chinese New Year parade
Chen Chen and I went last year after only being home a few weeks but this was the first time all 3 of us got to go, she had the best view from Daddy's shoulders
She was excited to see the lions and dragons just like the ones in the books we have been reading
Afterwards we had a yummy late lunch
Last year I had been hesitant to go as we were still figuring out routines and for some reason the 45 mile trip into Chicago seemed like traveling halfway around the world at the time but it actually turned out to be an easy trip so I figured this year would be no big deal...it was probably 10 degrees warmer this year and that appeared to make quite the difference in turnout, we had the worst time finding parking and ended up walking a gazillion blocks after finally parking somewhere that may or may not have been a tow zone (not I guess since our car was still there). It was worth the hassle to see her waving at everyone in the parade and telling everyone Gung Hay Fat Choy and then there was the bathroom incident...before the parade we ducked into a restaurant to use the bathroom, there was an elderly Chinese woman in the tiny restroom who we thought was leaving but who instead decided to come into the stall where we were to ask if I was "mama" and then proceeded to pinch Chen Chen's cheeks and smile at her as she used the restroom, having experienced the lack of personal space while in China all I could do was stand and smile back at her and think about how much we miss China and wish we could go back. All in all it was a fun day and a certain someone should be sleeping a little later than 5 a.m. tomorrow morning after all the excitement of today!
Another week down and still on track! So glad I decided last week to use a Design H page for the right side as it made for less filler and getting things done faster.
Left side...used some Studio Calico printables which made things easy to coordinate plus I wanted to pull in some red as we were approaching the beginning of Chinese New Year so I cut the red border on the Out The Door card with a download from the Silhouette store.
Right side...Design H, my new best friend :) It does kind of lock me into keeping this week at a page and a half and we have a few more things going on this week so we will see how that plays out when I sit down to put everything together but I still think it is going to work out! The red lantern is from the Silhouette store, I just added to the border so it fit with the card better and wasn't just a floating shape.
On to week 7, still enjoying this project especially when Chen Chen and/or Bob pulls the album out to look through it :) I know at year's end I am going to be glad I stuck with it!
Last year we had only been home a few weeks when Chinese New Year started so we really didn't do much celebrating other than going to the CNY parade downtown. We've been reading the book My First Chinese New Year over the past week and are starting some of the traditions mentioned in the book...we started yesterday by getting a new haircut
Then we came home and cleaned the house from top to bottom, not my favorite but it did feel good to have a clean, fresh start today :) This afternoon I gave Chen Chen one of the dresses we bought for her in Guangzhou and coaxed her into having a few pictures taken. I bought dresses in a few sizes so we could take pictures in traditional dress over the next few years. I bought them all in different colors but wish now I would have bought more red ones as I love how it looks on her.
Tonight we went to our favorite Chinese restaurant and gave her a red envelope (Hong Bao) with some chocolate coins, a gift card and a jade necklace we bought for her in China. My new jade necklace arrived this week and she was super excited to have one of her own and kept holding hers up next to mine to show how we matched. We bought hers in Beijing right before we met her, it's carved with her Chinese zodiac animal the rat.
Tomorrow I am going to her pre-school class to read a couple of Chinese New Year books and then we are going to make dragon puppets and hand out red envelopes and Cuties. We have some various snake themed crafts we are going to do after school this week and then we will go to the parade in Chinatown next weekend. Looking forward to lots of fun and celebrating over the next couple of weeks...Happy 2013 the Year of the Snake!
My scrap space was somewhat organized and clean (for a change!) so I thought I would snap a few pictures to share. This room has been several things since we bought our house. First it was a guest room, then it was Chen Chen's room, and then we moved her into what was my scrap-room since it was 1. much larger and 2. I had downsized how much scrapping I was doing and didn't feel like I needed that much space any more. Well, lo and behold as soon as we moved my stuff over I started scrapping more but it is actually a good thing to be in a smaller space since it forces me to edit what I keep and what I bring in.
Bob built this desk for me a few years ago...I love it! It is big and study and is a scrapping workhorse. It has lots of flat space to work on with storage underneath for my sewing machines, flair making supplies and bins of random embellishments plus it cleans up easy & looks as good as the day he built it. A few weeks ago I decided I needed to add a bit more storage for Project Life stuff so he built the piece to set on top.
This is most of my PL stuff, everything is easily within reach and is in containers so I can pull a basket or a bowl down, get what I need and put it back so the mess doesn't get out of control. So far it has worked really well.
These Ikea shelves and cabinets are on the opposite wall. My vintage fabric stash is in there and stays dust free in the closed cabinets. There is room on top for my postal scale, Cameo and my Elle's Studio embellishments. I keep them separate so I don't have to dig through my PL stuff when I am working on DT assignments! the shelves had books on them when Chen Chen was in here, once those moved to her new room I added some art and a few random things that make me happy :)
This is where I keep my paper, Thickers, and sheets of stickers. I had so much I wasn't using that I went through and pulled together into a big box for Chen Chen to use for projects. The pieces on the wall are from when she was in the room, her new space has limited wall space so here they stayed!
One of the things I love most about this room is the built in bed, doesn't make much sense in a scrap-room but in a pinch we could still use it as a guest room and there is lots of storage in the built-ins around it. You don't even want to know how much stuff is crammed behind those 2 little doors!
Here is what is happening on my floor most days...craft projects and a pug curled up by the heater vent.
Still on track and finished week 5 on Monday morning. I know I skipped posting week 4 but just never got around to taking pictures so we're moving on :)
I probably could have done the week in just one page, we have been kind of home bound between the cold and snow and not much is going on, but I like having the Out The Door pictures in the 3x4 spots along the center so I think this week I am going to use a Design H page on the right along with the Design A on the left.
A couple of details shots with flair used from the shop
